Started DJing in/around 1979-80. I was around 16. Didn't have a job so I couldn't afford 1200's so I got a Technics SL-B202 (belt drive) turntable, a Radio Shack mixer and I used my parents' turntable all in one stereo for a second turntable. Practiced everyday (because my then DJ partner said I sucked) until I was able to finally match some beats. Vinyl of course. Went on to finally afford a pair of 1200s, practiced more and eventually got enough money to build a small sound system. Started playing house parties getting a small following, then went on to play schools and eventually got noticed at a Battle of the DJs when all the power went out except for my system. We actually had plugged into several different outlets without knowing that's what you should do to avoid blowing a fuse. Got a bigger following, went through several different partners and promoters then headlined the Florentine Gardens. Spent the 80s playing at several different venues and then stopped DJing under NEMESIS in 1989. Started a new group "The Crash Unit" in 1990 and went under "Mondo Gecko" and again got a following, up until 1993 when I quit DJing for good. Returned to DJing, as Nemesis, in 2019 and had to learn how to mix on CDJs and Controller. Pandemic hit and started "Live Streaming" then landed a sweet gig on www.allgrooverhouseradio.com with a weekly open format radio mix show called "Tales from the B Sides" and I have no intention of ever quitting, and I still practice/mix every day. LIke my good friend DJ Rene C. (The Wizard) says... "till the wheels fall off" (a skateboarding term since I also still skate) People can follow me on Instagram @MandoNemesis or on Facebook @Mando N.
